Looking for an inspiring and educational outing for your students or youth group?

The Mongui Maduro Museum, Library, and Hòfi Rooi Catootje offer a unique opportunity to discover Curaçao’s history, culture, nature, and heritage in one remarkable location.

Located on the historic Rooi Catootje Estate, dating back to 1735, students are invited to explore the stories, people, and landscapes that helped shape Curaçao.

What Will Students Discover?

The Mongui Maduro Museum

Step inside the former plantation house and discover the fascinating history of the Levy Maduro family, whose contributions influenced the social, cultural, and economic development of Curaçao for more than four generations.

Topics include:

  • Plantation Rooi Catootje and its history since 1853

  • The demolition of the Punda city wall and the development of Willemstad

  • World War II heroes George Maduro, Ena Dankmeijer-Maduro, and Emile Dankmeijer

  • The events surrounding Trinta di Mei (May 30, 1969)

  • The 1954 Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

  • Entrepreneurship, heritage preservation, and cultural identity

Students will also encounter authentic antiques, family heirlooms, photographs, and historical objects that bring the stories to life.

The Mongui Maduro Library

The library houses one of Curaçao’s most important collections of Antilliana and Judaica materials. Built upon Mongui Maduro’s lifelong passion for collecting books, newspapers, and historical information, the library offers students a unique glimpse into research, archives, and cultural preservation.

Hòfi Rooi Catootje

Extend your visit outdoors and explore Hòfi Rooi Catootje, a unique heritage landscape where nature, history, and sustainability meet.

Students can discover:

  • Historic 19th-century waterworks and dam systems

  • Native plants and wildlife

  • Climate adaptation and water management

  • Curaçao’s natural environment and biodiversity

  • The restoration of historic infrastructure through the Awa pa Kòrsou project

The Hòfi offers an engaging outdoor learning environment that combines environmental education with cultural heritage. It is ideal for school visits, scout groups, youth organizations, Vacation Plan activities, and educational workshops.
