The Building

Introduction to the library

The Ena Dankmeijer-Maduro Pavilion, a state-of-the-art building, designed by architects Lyongo Juliana and Cees den Heyer accommodates the innovative Mongui Maduro Library.

The architects, using modern architecture to integrate the new building with the old plantation house, have been taking ‘green and nature’ into account.

This library, inaugurated on April 7, 2010, in memory of the birthday of Salomon Abraham Levy (Mongui) Maduro, Ena’s father, offers researchers the opportunity to use its contents as a reference collection.
The rooms are climate-controlled for the conservation of the library’s valuable books
and unique documents.
